Ashleigh Bennett is the editor-in-chief of the Express. This is her second semester writing for the Express, after being a staff writer for the spring 2021 semester.
When Ashleigh started college, she had no plans of venturing into journalism, but as she progressed through college, she realized it would be beneficial to round out her writing skills with journalism and media knowledge. In fall 2020, she began pursuing a certificate from City College in multimedia news in order to learn the design and online media publication skills employers often require of writers.
She joined the Express in the spring 2021 semester after being encouraged by former Express adviser, Jan Haag, to become a staff writer and apply what she had learned in her classes. Ashleigh discovered she had a passion for writing feature articles and putting people’s stories to the page.
Ashleigh is dual-enrolled at Missouri State University, where she is pursuing her bachelor’s in professional and technical writing. She hopes to write for Missouri State’s newspaper, The Standard, when she is finished at City College. When not writing or editing for the Express, she enjoys reading, writing, playing piano, drawing, doting on her dog, Toby, and spending time with friends and family.
